The Alumni Association of Patkai Christian College is taking up an ambitious project to improve the tattered roads inside the campus.

A foundation laying programme for the road project was held today at the college’s main gate with Principal Emeritus, Rev. Dr. Tuisem A. Shishak formally inaugurating the project.

The alumni association envisions laying interlocking bricks instead of the normally used bitumen across the two campuses – a stretch of approximately 1.4 kms. Initiated last year, the 85-lac project, however, could only materialize this year and work is set to begin in the next few days.

Rev. Shishak speaking briefly before launching the project thanked the alumni association for taking up the initiative and also called for prayer and support for the project.

Earlier, Neilevono Vupru, Examination Controller and an alumnus of the college, portrayed roads as depicting the condition of a place and therefore the need for “pothole free roads”.

“Unless someone runs the extra mile, things of this nature can never materialize,” she stated and thanked the association for initiating the project. She also had a word of caution for those leading the project warning that the task ahead will not be easy.

However, Vupru had an optimistic tone when she spoke of the 5000-plus alumni of the college and stated that if everybody chips in their worth, “our project will come to fruition.” “Let us put in our concerted effort and I am sure we will see good roads,” she urged.

Meanwhile, the association has also appealed alumni of the college for contributions – financially or materially. For more information, contact Shonreichon Sareo @ 8258997774 or Apam Jagoi @ 8731852516.
