For the past two weeks, the Department of PWD (R&B) has been undertaking road repairing works along the stretch from Purana Bazaar Police Point to 3rd Mile, Dimapur.

Additional Chief Engineer (ACE), PWD (R&B), Limadongdang Jamir who inspected the ongoing works along with other subordinate officers on Thursday informed at the site that the Department has started filling of potholes along that road on the direction of the Chief Minister. He said there was no specific funding to the Department for that particular road since it originally falls under the purview of the Border Roads Organization (BRO) which has handed over the road to the National Highway (R&B) but added that the R&B was yet to officially take over the road.

The ACE also informed that the Chief Minister provided some assistance through the State Disaster Management Authority to fill potholes along the stretch and accordingly the Department is working from 3 am till 9 am to avoid obstructing traffic movement. The pothole filling is likely to be completed with the next week.

Limadongdang said that the Department had earlier undertaken repair works of three-layered stone gravel filling near Padumpukhuri Gate area but added that it has been washed away owing to underground water seepage. “It may appear that the Department has not done anything but such natural conditions are beyond our control and there is not even a single drain in that area for almost half kilometre,” he said. However, the ACE said that the Department would continue to give its best efforts for the convenience of the public.

Besides this, the Department is also undertaking road improvement works in various areas including Rangapahar Railway Crossing to Thahekhu Village, East Police Station to Super Market, Rail Gate to Old SP Office, Walford Mahindra Showroom area and other minor works in different areas. Limadongdang, however, informed that most of the works in these areas were stopped during the last few days owing to heavy rain and would resume work according to the weather condition.

The ACE further informed that the Department has submitted an estimate amounting to Rs 87 lakh to the government for road repair works from City Tower Junction to DC Court Junction, Thahekhu Block 7 Gate to Thahekhu Tower Junction and 3rd Mile Junction to Lungwiram Junction. He said the government was yet to approve the estimate.

Superintendent Engineer, PWD (R&B), Er. Kahuli who was also present at the site thanked the Chief Minister for granting assistance to undertake road repair works in Dimapur.
