NSF to boycott Republic Day celebration

DIMAPUR, JANUARY 23 (MExN): The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has announced that it would be boycotting the coming Indian Republic Day celebration on January 26 to show its resentment against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016.

A press statement issued by NSF president Kesosul Christopher Ltu and general secretary Imtiyapang Imsong has directed all the federating units and sub-ordinate bodies to boycott the Republic Day in their respective jurisdiction. It also directed all the educational institutions and the students not to participate in any of the government activities or events related to the Republic Day celebrations.

The Federation further demanded that the Nagaland Government come out clearly as to whether it is for the bill or against the bill without further confusing the general public with “press statements and counter statements.”

Being constituent unit of the North East Students’ Organization (NESO), the Federation asserted that it had vigorously appraised and appealed the Government of India on the Bill and expressed its resentment against in various ways and forum.

Despite all this, the GoI have passed the bill in the Lok Sabha and awaits the bill to be passed in the Rajya Sabha, it added.
