Advisor for School Education, K.T. Sukhalu on Sunday said that one need not demand respect from others but rather earn through one’s principle, attitude and service to the society.

He was speaking as a special guest at the 15th Nagaland Muslim Students’ Felicitation programme organized by Muslim Council Dimapur (MCD) at Christian Higher Secondary School on September 2.

Sukhalu maintained that he entered politics with the objective of ushering in positivity to the society and to facilitate good education to students as they were the future of the society. He said one should not strive to have everything by themselves in life but to choose between what was positive and negative in their life.

He also advised the students to set aside more time for books rather than on social media. Stating that the PDA government has been trying to do away with the VIP culture by taking various steps, Sukhalu, however, said that the people also need to change attitude.

Guest of Honour, Akashe Zhimomi, President of Dimapur District Chamber of Commerce & Industry, talked about the issue of ILP in Nagaland stating that the Naga people were not against the Muslims in Dimapur but against illegal immigrants from Bangladesh. He urged the MCD to discourage its members from indulging in anti-social activities. “If they do something that is anti-social, your image too will be tarnished,” he said while adding that the MCD had been doing a commendable job and urged them to join hands with the government to wipe out illegal immigrants from Dimapur.

During the programme, various guests gave away awards to meritorious students.
