RPF ‘Martyrs’ remembered

Newmai News Network Imphal | April 13   Nine cadres of the banned Revolutionary People's Front (RPF) , who were killed in an encounter with security forces 35 years ago, were remembered on the occasion of 'Martyrs' Day' 2017 by the people.   The event was observed at Chingmeirong hillock organised by the Family Committee of the Observation of '13th April.'   People coming from various parts of the state, family members, relatives, friends and dear ones of the late RPF cadres paid floral tributes to the tombs located at the 'martyrs' complex'.   The RPF cadres were killed in a major gunbattle with security forces at Kodompokpi in Imphal West in 1982. Since then, the outfit has been marking the day, April 13, as Martyrs' Day every year.   Strick security measures were taken in and around the complex by deploying a large number of Manipur police and CRPF personnel to thwart any untoward incident.   The observation committee set up by the families of the killed RPF cadres is required to seek due permission from the Manipur High Court every year to observe the event.   A free medical camp was held at the community hall of Thangmeiband Sinam Leikai near Chingmeirong hillock to mark the occasion.
