Seizure of liquor, drugs continues ahead of election

Dimapur/Wokha, February 16 (MExN): In the run up to the Nagaland assembly election scheduled for February 27, Excise personnel have intensified raids and checks leading to seizure of liquor and drugs in different districts.  

The Wokha Excise Election Expenditure Monitoring (EEM) duty party conducted raids in several pockets of the district from February 1 to 16 and seized 804 bottles of IMFL, 1045 litres of country liquor, 8222 capsules of Spasmo proxyvon, and 3215 tablets of nitrazepam. Altogether, 17 cases were registered during the period. This was informed in a press release from Vithoselie Terhuja, Superintendent of Excise, Wokha.  

A separate press release from Katoho Sumi, Superintendent of Excise & Prohibition (MS), Dimapur informed that the Excise Mobile Squad Special Task Force constituted in connection with the forthcoming State general election seized a total of 1416 bottles of assorted liquor on February 14. In this connection, one Bikas was arrested and booked under relevant section of the NLTP Act, the release stated.  

Meanwhile, on February 16, the duty personnel under the Superintendent of Excise, Dimapur seized a total of 412 bottles of assorted IMFL during MVCP duty and arrested one person identified as Chuveen Kumar (25) at Burma Camp area, informed another press release from Tarep Imchen, Commissioner of Excise & Prohibition. On the same day, the MVCP duty under the Superintendent of Excise-Narcotic Cell seized 260 bottles of assorted IMFL at Diphu Road, Dimapur, the release added. In this regard, one accused named Sanjay Singh (48) was arrested. According to the press release, the total value of the seized articles is about Rs. 1,30,000/-.  

The Commissioner stated that the State Excise & Prohibition department will continue to conduct such raid and intensify activities all over Nagaland to maintain a clean election.
