Dimapur, August 19 (MExN): A sensitization programme for institution on implementation of scholarship schemes, sponsored by department of School Education was organized by District Education Office, Dimapur at Holy Cross Higher Secondary School Auditorium on August 19.


According to a DIPR report, District Education Officer, Dimapur R Amongla while delivering welcome address stated that the Government of India has introduced many flagship programmes for the welfare of the students like mid-day meal, free text books, free uniform, scholarships etc. However, some programmes have not been successfully implemented on the part of the stakeholder.


She said that Pre-metric scholarship scheme for minorities can help students from economically poor background to be able to continue their studies as many are being dropped out due to financial problems. She, therefore, requested the teachers and school authorities to help create awareness of such scheme and help the eligible students avail the scholarship to lighten their economic burden.


Special Educator, Zuretho Nyuthe who was the resource person for the day gave PowerPoint presentations on PMS-ST students for Class IX & Class X and PMS Minority /NGSSM. In his presentation, Nyuthe highlighted that the scheme Pre-Matric Scholarship for Minorities was initiated during 2011-13 in the state with Department of School Education as Nodal agency. He said that the online implementation of Pre-Matric Scholarship scheme for 2019-20 will be done through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) of the Government of India under URL www.scholarships.gov.in and to initiate that the ministry have deregistered all school that do not have valid AISHE/DISE codes but however made a provision for re-registration after obtaining valid AISHE /DISE code.


The Special Educator also informed that the submission of online application for 2019 is July 15 to October 15 and the last date for first level (institution) verification and second level (district) verification is October 31 and November 15.


On procedure for Nagaland Government Schools Students Meritorious Award, Nyuthe stated the award is given at Primary, elementary and high school level. For detail information one can login to https://education.nagaland.gov.in.
Assistant Superintendent, Sakuyuden delivered the introductory speech while the programme was chaired by Office Assistant, Sentila Pongen and the vote of thanks was proposed by ADEO, Lolensangla.


In Wokha, District level sensitization programme for institutions on implementation of scholarship was held at WDVC & VDB hall. The programme was attended by principles, headmaster, teacher in-charge and teachers from various government and private schools under Wokha District attended the programme.


Resource person, from Directorate of School Education, Jangsemba Tzudir, while appraising the head of institutions regarding the Pre-Matric scholarship for minorities said this scheme was initiated during 2012-13 in the state and the Department of school Education is the Nodal agency for implementing the scheme in the state. The Ministry has opened the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) on July 15 for applying online scholarships for 2019-20. The online implementation of Pre-Matric Scholarship Scheme shall be done through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) of the Government of India, under URL www.scholarships.gov.in.


While highlighting about the instructions for students and institutions for filling up the forms online and conditions of eligibility, he urged the teachers to extend help to the students so that students can avail the benefits and opportunity provided by the government. He further urged them to give more efforts as Wokha district applicant is very less comparing with other districts in the state.


Tzudir who also presented on pre-matric scholarship for ST students studying in Class IX & X said the objectives of the scheme is to support parents of ST children for education of their wards studying in Class IX & X so that the incidence of drop-out, especially in the transition from the elementary to the secondary stage in minimized and to improve participation of ST children in IX and X of the pre-matric stage, so that they perform better and have a better chance of progressing to the post-matric stage of education. 


Deputy Director & State Nodal Officer, Limadangit Jamir gave the introductory remark. Sr. SDEO/DEO (In charge), Wokha R. Nzanbeni Lotha delivered the welcome address while vote of thanks was proposed by Assistant District Education Officer, Zubeno Lotha.
