Sonowal chairs review meeting

Guwahati, March 16 (PTI): Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Monday reviewed the Coronavirus outbreak preparations in the state with senior officials.

An official release said, an emergency review meeting on preparation undertaken so far for prevention and control of Coronavirus in the state was chaired by the Chief Minister.

The meeting discussed on the various advisories and office memorandums issued by Government of India and also the state government, it added.

The Chief Minister directed that the surveillance activities undertaken so far must be continued strictly and all the international travelers alighting in all the airports of Assam shall be mandatorily screened for possible Coronavirus infection.
"All the layers of administration, cutting across the departments, shall be working together so that a coordinated action can be undertaken at all levels.

"Since the Coronavirus infection appears to affect predominantly old age people, effort should be taken to sensitise about the necessary steps to ensure the safety of older people in both urban and rural areas," the statement said. Sonowal asked for daily review of the situation by the responsible officials until the crisis situation is over.
