‘Striving for greater heights’- GMS Alempang attain 50 yrs

Initially known as Chandmari Lower Primary School, the Government Middle School Alempang, Mokokchung celebrated its Golden Jubilee here today under the theme “Striving for greater heights” with Parliamentary Secretary S. Chuba Longkumer as chief guest.  

Established on February 27, 1967 as a primary school, the school was maintained Alempang and Dilong wards till 1988. In 1989, the maintenance of the school was entirely handed over to Alempang ward with mutual understanding between the two wards with the permission of the education department. The name of the school was renamed Government Primary School Alempang in 1970 and was upgraded to Middle School in 2011. With 200 pupils enrolled in the school, Government Middle School Alempang is perhaps the biggest government middle school in the district in terms of enrollment.  

The chief guest while speaking at the golden jubilee celebration said that although Nagaland has a high literacy rate at 79.55% as of 2011, the state was not moving forward as it should be and that it was time the people changed their mindset and approach towards education. He said that earning academic certificates was not enough and that education should equip the students for self-reliance under any circumstances. He also said that quality education is a must for social transformation and that it is a prerequisite for achieving greater heights for every striving student.  

Short speeches were also made by Alem Longkumer, Area Education Officer Mokokchung, former teacher Limasenla, Alempang Ward chairman Rongpangwati and Ward Education Committee chairman, Limasashi. Presentation of special numbers by the school students, felicitation of past teachers and associates of the school, release of Jubilee souvenir magazine and mass feast were other highlights of the celebrations.
