Survival Nagaland’s view on Citizenship (Amendment) Bill

Survival Nagaland

We have come across the views expressed by individuals and Civil societies and most importantly, the different statements of ruling Government on the ongoing debate of controversial CAB. All right thinking citizens are made to understand the fact that the Government  is not sincere in letter and spirit for which a time has come to press for certain demands for the 'survival of indigenous Nagas'. We have constitutional rights to safeguard our indigenous land and therefore, mass-based participation is anticipated whenever peaceful and democratic form of agitation is led by leading Naga civil societies.

Despite various protests and regional unrest in the North Eastern states, Delhi intends to go ahead with controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 for religious vote bank. This is nothing but silencing the voices of tribal minorities and hijacking our Rights so as to pave the way to build illegal paradise in an indigenous territory. In an unfortunate development such as this, an MP of ruling PDA Government refrained from voting against CAB in Lok Sabha on Jan 8, 2019. Not that we undermine the activities of Zunheboto DDCMC (District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee) but citing the district level quarterly meeting of DISHA (according to media report of Feb 13, 2019) as the reason for missing parliament session is the biggest question mark on everyone's head.

The media has earlier published the news report of our Government's statement that CAB doesn't concern us much for the reason, we are safeguarded by Article 371A and BEFR Act 1873. If so, with these powerful tools at at hand ready to struck anytime, why do the Government choose to remain mute to illegal population swarming the indigenous land right in front of their eyes for decades? When we talk about Article 371A like breakfast, lunch and dinner, how comes we have illegal migrants engulfed our kitchen garden? Why do the Government randomly issue trade licence to people of doubtful origin without ascertaining the genuine citizenship and allow them to build business empire in our land when we boasts of BEFR Act 1873 ?

If we understand the one who controls the market controls the economy, do we ever realize who is controlling the state of Nagaland ? Finally it knocks some sense that our Government has failed us beyond repair. Survival Nagaland (SN) is open to work with NGBF, student bodies and all the tribal apex bodies to take this movement forward. As much as we oppose CAB and press for ILP, we need to take concerted efforts to stop alloting residential and commercial space to illegal migrants and stop employing them. This can be practically achieved only if tribal hohos & civil societies pass stringent resolutions binding on every respective tribes, covering every villages and towns of Nagaland.

We sincerely appreciate the recent bandhs being initiated and spearheaded by JCPI, Nagaland GB Federation and student bodies respectively. Survival Nagaland as a responsible Pressure Group and as a member in the JCPI (Joint Committee on Prevention of Illegal Immigrants) shall stay tuned and continue to combat the menace of illegal settlement of foreigners under CAB 2016.
