WC, NNPGs condemn alleged killing of Captain Chang

Dimapur, December 5 (MExN): The WC, NNPGs today condemned the alleged abduction and killing of Captain Akham Chang of NSCN-Reformation, Naga Army.

He was abducted from his residence by the Indian Army Jawans on the night of November 29 and was taken to their camp, said a press release issued by Media Cell, Working Committee (WC), NNPGs.

The release held that he was “brutally tortured throughout the night and the next day till death.”

The release further held that in order to hide their criminal activities, “he was taken to nearby jungle and was shot multiple times from a point blank range to show the world he was killed in an offensive action.”

Captain Chang joined the Naga National movement in the year 1996 and served under different capacities with the NSCN (K) till 2017. He joined the NSCN (R) after the Government of India and the NNPGs entered into peace negotiation and “chose to come back to Indian side of Naga homeland from Myanmar to spend the rest of his life in peace,” it added.

It regretted that Captain Chang “who defected from NSCN (K) seeking peace with India was abducted and killed...by the Assam Rifles. This type of heartless killing by AR cannot be forgotten easily.”

The WC, NNPGs reiterated that the Nagas peace talks “has come to an end and all outstanding issues have been resolved except for the ceremonial signing of the political document.”

Therefore it will be unwise on the part of the Indian security forces “to provoke and vitiate the environment anywhere in the Naga homeland,” it said.

“It is with much hardship and best of efforts, after many decades, that all the Naga National Political Groups and the Naga Civil Society in unison are on the threshold of the long desired peace and therefore, the Assam Rifles should stop exhibiting terrorist traits in Naga homeland.”

Meanwhile, the WC, NNPGs condoled his death and prayed that God grant the departed soul peace for which he had “yearned so much.”  It further prayed that God grant solace and strength to the bereaved family members at this hour of grief.
