‘We must first promote equality and justice’

NSLSA, ZDLSA organise Mega Legal Services Camp in Zunheboto

Zunheboto, November 17 (MExN): Mega Legal Services Camp was organised by Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) and Zunheboto District Legal Services Authority (ZDLSA) in collaboration with Government departments, stakeholders and NGOs on November 17.  

Delivering the inaugural speech, Justice Songkhupchong Serto, Judge Gauhati High Court exhorted that to establish a society, a state or country; we must first promote equality and justice in all spheres. He said that the cause of violence and disturbances in communities is inequality.  

He spoke on the importance of letting entitlements reach the people on time so that we can build a society where justice and peace prevail and tranquillity flourish.  

The Judge also urged the Department heads to serve with sensitivity and promptitude and that all stakeholders must ensure and always endeavour to see that these benefits reach the right destination as that will build a society where there are peace and tranquillity.  

He also inaugurated the Mega Legal Services Camp.  

The keynote address was given by Mezivolu T Therieh NJS, Member Secretary, NSLSA. She said that the Legal Services Authority was primarily created in order to reach out to the unreached and to provide legal services to the weaker sections of society and identify and connect people to the benefits and schemes.  

She pointed out that the mega Legal Camp is to draw out the effect of the paradigm shift from awareness to empowerment for the marginalized and weaker sections of society.  

Stating that the Legal Services Authority acts as facilitators to converge many government schemes to the citizens, Therieh urged the NGOs and Government Departments to assist the public and receive what is due to them.  

Therieh also encouraged the audience to avail the help of the District Officers, Panel lawyers and other departments as the Mega Legal Services Camp is not only about creating awareness but also bringing various services to your doorstep. She urged the audience to know their rights in order to know what they deserve.  

The welcome address was delivered by Niechochiyi Suyie, NJS, District Sessions Judge & Chairperson ZDLSA. He also informed that the stalls were set up to disseminate awareness to the people which include rights and various welfare schemes. He further encouraged beneficiaries to inquire about their rights and explore all the stalls.   After the keynote address, scholarships were given to six students by the District Child Protect Unit.  

Short speeches were delivered by Shanavas C, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Zunheboto and Dr CW Tungoe, Chief Medical Officer, Zunheboto.  

Shanavas C IAS, Deputy Commissioner expressed that the main cause of backwardness is often lack of awareness which is ignorance of our own rights. He said that the Mega Legal Services Camp is a golden opportunity, being the first legal camp in Zunheboto, to know our rights and also spread awareness. Shanavas also encouraged the beneficiaries to be patient and informed them of their grievances as well.  

Dr CW Tungoe, Chief Medical Officer, Zunheboto said that the legal camp was an opportunity for various Government Departments to create awareness at the grass root level.
