Young Naga medical student represents India in international conference

Moiom H Phom, a student of Lady Hardinge Medical College from Nagaland represented India during the recently held East Asian Medical Student Conference 2016 at Taipei, Taiwan. The conference was held under the theme ‘medical care in the future: when medicine and technology meet humanity’ where Moiom and another student from India won the third prize in the Public Poster Competition.
The aspiring medical student from Nagaland, representing India presented a paper on the topic ‘Electro Aspirin’ to go with the theme of the conference. Describing the future of medicine to be “very bright and fascinating”, the paper looks at using hi-tech not only to diagnose and treat but even in prevention of various ailments.
The aim is to improve ‘services rendered to the patients’ through ‘intensive technology inventions’ and accordingly, ‘Electro Aspirin’ has been described as a ‘health reforming technology’. “The advancement in the healthcare technology industry will not only help in the repair of physical disadvantages but also help in creation of super human powers”, states the paper.
According to Moiom H Phom of Lady Hardinge Medical College and Japsimran Nagpal of Dayanand Medical College, ‘Electronic Aspirin is a patient powered creative tool that has been made with the help of the latest technological aid’. They state that “people who suffer from pro-longed headaches and migraines can get relief easily with this milestone technology creation”.
The presentation on ‘Electro Aspirin’ identifies the basic mechanism of action of this technology—to stimulate thesphenopalatine ganglion or SPG nerves and block the pain causing neurotransmitters thereby improving the quality of life of ailing patients to a large extent. It has been mentioned that after getting approval of treating migraine and cluster headaches in Europe, approval for testing in the US is currently awaited.
