DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 29 (MExN): Ten college student unions from Phek, Peren, Dimapur, Kohima and Wokha today withdrew support and declared non cooperation to the All Nagaland College Students Union (ANCSU).
This was stated in a joint statement from the student unions of Pfütsero Government College, Phek Government College, Peren Government College, Mount Tiyi College Wokha, Bailey Baptist College Wokha, Modern College Kohima, Capital College of Higher Education Kohima, Model Christian College Kohima, Salt Christian College Dimapur, and Unity College Dimapur
The student unions stated that the move to withdraw support was a result of the “unacceptable conduct of the Election Commission” during the recently conducted ANCSU conference and election.” The unions alleged that the Election Commission “participated in undemocratic means" adding that recommendation letters which were countersigned by principals of some colleges were cancelled even though they were already submitted, prior to the day of election; and that recommendation letters were duplicated on the spot and the General Secretaries were forced to sign.
They also accused the Commission of being engaged in the “use of force during the election.” “Riot police force was engaged to barricade the whole entrance of the conference. Students were forcibly pushed outside the conference on the day of election following the direction of the Election Commission and the then ANCSU president,” the unions alleged. They further claimed that the Election Commission barred some colleges from voting stating that they were late but allowed some colleges to vote though they were late as well.
The student unions informed that they had presented these grievances to the ANCSU Office through Tribunal General. However, they informed that ANCSU Officials failed to address the issues and continued with the change of guard.
