Dimapur, January 30 (MExN): Ten legislators of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) today tendered their resignations from membership in the assembly. The legislators include Tokheho Yepthomi, Noke Wangnao, Dr. Neikiesalie Nicky Kire, S Pangnyu Phom, Zhaleo Rio, Deo Nukhu, CM Chang, Pohwang Konyak, Namri Nchang and Neiba Kronu. In a joint statement, 9 of the legislators said that the decision to resign from the NLA was made in view of the “resolution passed by the NLA on December 15, 2017 urging the Government of India to resolve the Naga Political Issue before the election and in support of the people’s desire for solution before election and agreement reached between civil societies, apex tribal Hohos and political parties of Nagaland on January 29, 2018 to defer state elections.” Meanwhile, their resignations have been accepted. Commissioner and Secretary, N Benjamin Newmai in a press release informed that the NLA Speaker, Dr. Imtiwapang Aier had accepted their resignations. Consequent upon the resignations, the Speaker in a notification declared the seats under 3- Dimapur-III (ST); 43 - Tapi (ST); 9 - Kohima Town (ST); 50 - Longleng (ST); 5- Ghaspani-II (ST); 17 - Chizami (ST); 51 - Noksen (ST); 44 - Phomching (ST); 6- Tenning (ST) and 16 - Pfutsero (ST) Assembly Constituencies as vacant.
