10 out of 12 suspected coronavirus cases test negative, 2 waiting results in Manipur: CM

A total of 1,21,629 persons have been screened at Imphal International Airport and various surface points of entry including Moreh, Behiang, Sinzawl, Tusom, Kamjong, Mao gate and Jiribam.

 

 

This was disclosed by Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh, while briefing  media persons on the situational update and preparedness to tackle COVID-19 disease (popularly known as novel coronavirus) at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Imphal on Thursday.

 

 

He also said that 12 samples were sent for laboratory testing, out of which, 10 samples were negative and report for another 2 is still awaited, he further informed.

 

Maintaining that around 352 persons have been kept under surveillance, Biren Singh stated that "we need to take such precautionary measures as the disease’s incubation period is 14 days.”

 

The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) has set up an isolation ward consisting of 8 beds with 4 ventilators ready for treatment to any suspected case. In Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) too, an isolation ward consisting of 6 beds with 1 ventilator is ready for treatment.

 

The CM also assured that the state government is closely monitoring the coronavirus situation and taking all precautionary measures to counter coronavirus in Manipur.

 

He appealed to the people of the state not to panic over the coronavirus and undertake basic self preventive measures such as washing hands regularly, using of mask, avoid mass gatherings, cover mouth while coughing and sneezing etc. The CM also informed that the government has already undertaken preventive measures in the State since January 18, 2020. Biometric attendance is temporarily suspended for one month in government offices, he added.

 

A control room has started functioning 24x7 with toll free number 0385-2411668. Dedicated ambulance has also been kept for transportation of suspected cases, the CM said.

 

During the press conference, officials of health department gave a detailed power point presentation about the update and preparedness of COVID-19 in the State.

 

It may be mentioned that there are around 90,870 confirmed cases of coronavirus globally and around 3112 people have died so far. In India, there are around 31 confirmed cases of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).

 

Chief Secretary Dr J Suresh Babu, Principal Secretary (Health), V. Vumlunmang, Director (Health Services) Dr K Rajo, Director (JNIMS) Prof  Th Bhimo, officials of Health department and JNIMS attended the press conference.
