DIMAPUR, JANUARY 30 (MExN): The Power Department today informed that on the night of January 29, a 100 KVA transformer near DC Office in Sangternla Ward, Mokokchung, which caters most of the Government Offices including DC office, some residential and commercial buildings/complexes got damaged due to overloading. A press note from the Mokokchung Electrical Division said that transformers are costly machinery and are not readily available either in DOPN store or vendors. “All efforts are being made by DOPN to arrange a replacement, however it will take some time before the damaged transformer is replaced and power supply restored in the area. Affected consumers are requested to bear with the inconveniences,” it appealed. Meanwhile, the department noticed that transformers catering to the areas under the Mokokchung electrical division are now operating under overloaded conditions due to unregulated usage of electric heaters, induction cookers and other prohibitive load intensive heater coils and appliances. “These appliances put tremendous stresses or, the machinery (transformer) inhibiting low voltage and lead to its ultimate damage. If this trend/bad practice does not stop immediately but continues unabatedly then many transformers will get damaged one after another,” the department cautioned.
