With an aim to preserve the culture and traditions of our forefathers, the Salukum Rogo Ungma organizes the Senayangba Cultural festival every year during the festivals of the Ao Nagas. This year too, to mark the festival of Tsungremmong of the Ao Nagas, the Salukum Rogo organized the 10th Senayangba Cultural Festival at Bapu Tzubu Amphitheatre, Ungma village, Mokokchung. Late Senayangba was a teacher, administrator and a social worker whose unforgettable services are still held high by the people.

The festival was graced by Imtikumzuk Longkumer, Deputy Speaker, Nagaland Legislative Assembly as the chief guest and Deo Nukhu, Parliamentary Secretary, Higher & Technical Education, Government of Nagaland as the guest of honour.

“In this fast growing era of technology, youth of today are slowing falling back and losing their cultural roots,” said the chief guest while addressing the people. He said that the youth should not only focus on education or business but also work towards knowing one’s own culture and traditions. “Our culture is not a written one but based on oral traditions. We should therefore put efforts in learning and preserving it before it disappears,” he further added.

The guest of honour Deo Nukhu, appreciated the effort of the Salukum Rogo in trying to preserve the unique cultural identity of the Nagas. He also appreciated the participation of young boys and girls in the cultural events displayed and encouraged them to continue and learn our culture and not to forget our roots. While concluding his speech he said that we should respect our traditional attires and ornaments and that it was not necessary to spend huge amounts on buying and presenting expensive traditional ornaments and attires to foreign guests since they do not understand its value.

The festivity saw performances from different cultural clubs of Ungma village and also from Sema Settsu and Gorkha Union Mokokchung. A ballad honoring the Late Senayangba and a memoir of Late Senayangba was also presented. Late Senayangba is the father of Dr. S. C. Jamir.
