There are altogether 11, 131 recorded non-agricultural establishments other than services in Nagaland with 2475 in the urban areas and 8656 in the rural areas.
Within these activities, bulk of the establishments comes from the manufacturing activity, with 10004 establishments followed by mining and quarrying with 693 units and 333 units from the construction activity.
Establishments engaged in activities other than agriculture (like crop production and plantation, growing of tea, coffee, rubber, tobacco etc) are termed as non agricultural establishments; i.e, activities which do not fall in the broad activity codes 01 and 04 and are covered under code 05 to 23.
This was stated in the latest publication of Sixth Economic Census, Nagaland, brought out by Directorate of Economics & Statistics.
It includes only those activities covered under code 5 to 9 which are mining and quarrying, manufacturing, electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply, water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation activities and construction.
Out of the total 11, 131 number of non agricultural activity units, Dimapur district has the highest with 1769 units, Kohima with 1767 units followed by Mon with 1744 units.
The district with the least units of non agricultural activity unit was recorded from Kiphire district with 114 units. Across the districts it emerges that manufacturing activity is the dominant activity.
Among the broad activities, water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation activities have the least share of establishments with only 40 units spread across the 11 districts in the state.
In terms of non-agricultural units other than service, Kiphire has the least share with 1.02 per cent whereas Dimapur district with 15.89 per cent has the highest share.
In this sector, the 82.24 percent of person are employed in manufacturing activity and 0.25 percent are employed in water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation activities.
Within the activity, the share of employment in the sub sectors were 7.10 per cent, 3.38 per cent and 1.03 percent in mining and quarrying, construction and electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning respectively.
A total of 29, 860 persons were employed in non-agricultural activity other than service activities, out of which, maximum number of 26, 349 persons were employed in the manufacturing activity.
In terms of gender wise distribution of persons employed in non agriculture activity, male employees are more than the female employees. In this category 80.29 per cent consist of male employees and only 19.71 per cent of employees are female workers.
The ratio of male female employees in this category of activity is 80:20, except in the construction sector which shows 95.04 per cent male and 4.96 female worker.
