Zubza, August 31 (MExN): A Legal Service Clinic (LSC) was inaugurated at Christian Mission School, Sechü (Zubza), Kohima by Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) Member Secretary N Longshithung Ezung, NJS on August 31.


This is the 11th Legal Service Clinic in Kohima district, under District Legal Services Authority, Kohima, infirmed a press release issued by the NSLSA. 


Member Secretary N Longshithung Ezung, NJS during the inaugural speech apprised the gathering of the hierarchical frame of the Legal Services Fraternity in rendering free and competent legal services to the people starting from the National Legal Services Authority down to the state authorities and districts. He also stated that its dual purpose is to administer in giving ‘awareness’ and education on accessible rights, empowerment and privileges available to the citizens provided by other government departments and agencies. He also conveyed that further help and guidance are extended to avail such schemes. 


Ezung expressed that the newly inaugurated LSC will cater its service to the entire Sechü (Zubza) region also through the active acumen of the Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs). Earlier, two PLVs were newly appointed. He called the PLVs to work with the motive to 'voluntarily' serve their people while calling for the active participation and cooperation of the village leaders. 


Phuleto  Yeptho, NJS CJM, Kohima & Secretary DLSA, Kohima supplemented that the legal services authority also acts an agent of administering justice to the poor and downtrodden people by providing free legal services in the conduct of cases before courts and tribunals. This, he pointed the existence and functioning of the LSC through the PLVs can bridge the gap between the district and state authority. 


Mhomo Tungoe, NCS, SDO (civil), Sechü (Zubza) opined that Christian Mission School which has been providing quality education for the region and villages nearby will be further empowered to make the LSC an example of social service and justice. He also called the attendance to inculcate a spirit of learning and gathering knowledge of the law. 


Earlier, the programme was held at the Village Council Hall, Sechü (Zubza). 


The programme was chaired by DLSA Kohima Panel Lawyer Apila Sangtam and VC member Neiphi Viya welcomed the gathering. Rüngutuo, Proprietor of the school and Zasitsolie, PL also gave short speeches.


NSLSA theme song was presented by Chandmari Higher Secondary School, Kohima Legal Literacy Club and Christian Mission School students also presented special song. The prizes for the essay competition held during the month of August on the topic ‘right to education’ were also given away. 


The LSC has been equipped with all necessary furniture, computer set and printer, books and booklets. 


Around 150 people- Village leaders, school faculty, students attended the programme.
