Kohima, June 7 (MExN): National Leprosy Eradication Program (NLEP) conducted a training programme for District Program Officers-CD/11 (DPOs-CD/11) at Conference Hall, DHFW on June 6. The training was attended by representatives from all the districts.
Dr SK Dey, State Leprosy Consultant and Dr Ruokuohelie Rutsa, State Leprosy Officer were the resource person, stated a press release.
Dr Ruokuohelie Rutsa gave a presentation on the overview of Leprosy programme and the State performance in the last five years. “As per the statistics, 122 cases of Leprosy was detected in Nagaland over the last five years with 90 (74%) imported cases and 32 (26%) indigenous cases,” it stated.
Mission Director, Dr Akuo Sorhie attended the programme as special guest, Dr Sorhie detailed insight of Leprosy programme with special emphasis on Nation Strategic Plan (NSP) and also highlighted roadmap for Leprosy 2023-2024. The target of NSP was to achieve interruption of transmission of Leprosy and achieve zero indigenous leprosy cases by 2027.
Dr Sorhie also emphasised on the need to remain vigilant and not be complacent since there are active cases of Leprosy in Nagaland with few indigenous cases. She stressed on the need to accelerate new case findings through active case findings, leprosy case detection campaign, focused leprosy campaign and intensified case finding of leprosy. Additionally, it was mentioned that it is needed to go aggressive contact tracing of index cases and proper preventive measures like post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) to be administered at the right time.
The programme concluded with vote of thanks pronounced by Hokito (NMS).
