CPO, WSH allege discrimination in Nagaland Police recruitment

DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 3 (MExN): The Chakhroma Public Organisation (CPO) and the Western Sümi Hoho (WSH) have expressed strong resentment over the recently advertised recruitment of Constables (GD) in the Nagaland Police Department, alleging discrimination in the district-wise allocation of posts.

In a joint representation to Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio, the two organisations said that the “district-wise post allocation based on tribal ratio” had placed Chümoukedima and Niuland districts under the general/open category, instead of granting them separate quotas as accorded to other full-fledged districts.

Terming the decision “arbitrary and discriminatory,” the CPO and WSH maintained that both Chümoukedima and Niuland have been officially recognised and notified as independent districts of Nagaland and therefore deserve separate allocations.

By clubbing them under the general pool, the organisations said, the Department had deprived the indigenous populations of their rightful share in representation and employment opportunities.

They added that the move undermines the purpose of district creation, which is to ensure equitable opportunities and fair representation for all indigenous communities.

“This discriminatory practice is unacceptable and sends a discouraging message to the people of these two districts regarding their status and recognition within the state’s administrative framework,” the representation stated.

Urging the Chief Minister to rectify what they described as an unjust allocation, the CPO and WSH demanded that separate and fair post allocations be granted to Chümoukedima and Niuland in the same manner as other recognised districts.
“Justice and equity require that the indigenous youth of Chümoukedima and Niuland be provided the same opportunities as their counterparts across Nagaland,” the organisations said.

Niuland GBs opposes clubbing of police recruitment with Chümou
The Niuland District GBs Association meanwhile expressed strong disappointment over the recently advertised recruitment of Constable (GD) posts in the Nagaland Police Department, alleging that the allocation process is discriminatory.

In a statement issued through its media cell, the Association said it has come to their notice that the district-wise allocation of posts under the General Open Category has been clubbed together for both Chümoukedima and Niuland districts, instead of granting separate allocations for each.

“Such a decision is viewed as discriminatory and unfair, as it directly undermines the principle of equal representation for all districts in Nagaland,” it stated. It argued that Niuland, as a full-fledged district, deserves its rightful share of representation in all government recruitments, just as accorded to other districts of the state.

The Association appealed to the Government of Nagaland to review the decision “in the greater interest of fairness and justice” and to ensure that Niuland District is accorded separate and equal allocation of posts in the recruitment process.

It further maintained that the Association “firmly believes that the Government will give due consideration to this appeal and take corrective measures to uphold the principles of equality and inclusiveness.”
