Following the suspected Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast near the Khovanalla bridge, in Chümoukedima on July 13, Nagaland Director General of Police Rupin Sharma visited the site on Wednesday and stated hope to get proper leads in the case while urging the public to assist the investigation by providing any relevant information.
As per preliminary investigation, he said that the vehicle in which the jawans were traveling started from Assam Rifles camp, which he termed as a “very narrow window” for the case that requires thorough investigation. However, he said, “We are very hopeful that we should be able to get proper leads in this case” while indicating that criminals would leave some traces.
He also urged the public to assist by reporting any seen vehicle or any person(s) running, or information of any shops where iron rods have been cut to pieces, or where any battery, fuse or wire may have been purchased.
Stating that their “forensic capabilities for post blast investigations are not as good as NSG's (National Security Guard),” he said that as experts in the field, the NSG Team was requisitioned for the case.
Based on the report, he said they will further decide what is to be done.
He also informed that the state government is likely to take a decision in the next couple of days on whether the case needs to be given to any central agency for investigation.
With mystery still surrounding the blast, he however categorically stated that, “we will keep our ears and eyes open, and we will go by the evidence which we get.”
“So in that, whether it is anyone from Nagaland or outside, or outside the country, we have everybody on our radar but no specific person or any group as of today,” he said.
