Dignitaries at the 13th All Sumi Chess Championship 2026 on March 19.
Chümoukedima, March 19 (MExN): The 13th All Sumi Chess Championship 2026 commenced today at Niathu Resort,Chümoukedima with Iloka K Shohe, President, All Sumi Games & Sports Association as the special guest.
Addressing the inaugural session, Shohe acknowledged the tremendous efforts put forth by Sumi Chess Association Nagaland (SCAN) in promoting the chess game in the state.
He stated that despite the lack of proper infrastructure, the advancement and progress of Chess among the Sumis is commendable.
He opined that Chess is a witty game and involve peace of mind. Shohe also emphasized the need for a proper Multidisciplinary sports complex at Zunheboto and Niuland. Later, SCAN has submitted a memorandum to the All Sumi Games & Sports Association.
Earlier, the inaugural program was chaired by Bovito Yeptho, General Secretary SCAN while SCAN president Itovi Awomi delivered presidential address. Toika Muru proposed vote of thanks.
Altogether, 56 players are participating in the championship with six years Edlina Nini Kiba (Bloom Academy) as the youngest player.
The meet will conclude on March 21.
