16 students left without HSLC admit card

A Dimapur-based school fell under the scanner after failing to issue admit cards to its wards set to appear for the 2014 High School Leaving Certificate examinations. The matter came to light on Monday, barely a day before more than 21, 000 HSLC students appear for the exams from February 11. The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) took up the matter after it was informed of the development.

NSF president, Tongpang Ozukum, informed that the school - Blooming Bud Montessori School- is not certified to run classes beyond standard 4. However, the school management upgraded classes till standard 10 without obtaining approval of the appropriate authority, he added. Quoting the school proprietor, Ozukum informed that the school had applied for certification from the Nagaland Board of School Education.

NSF got to know of the development late on Monday evening, through an anonymous tip, following which the school’s management was contacted, Ozukum said. Sixteen students of the school were supposed to appear the exams.

He quoted the school’s proprietor-cum-headmaster as stating that the management had applied for certification (for upgrading) but reportedly could not obtain it. Pending approval, the school did not send the list of students set to appear the 2014 HSLC exams.

Stating that the issue demands immediate attention, Ozukum appealed for the department concerned to intervene. While expressing concern for the students’ welfare, he demanded that the school’s management be dealt with accordingly.
