MALIGAON, APRIL 28 (MExN): Stating that the Railway Protection Force (RPF) is regularly conducting drives to control the menace of touts, the NF Railway on Sunday informed that during the period of 2023-2024, a total of 173 touts were apprehended.
In recently conducted checks and drives over the zone from April 23-25, the RPF apprehended 2 touts and recovered railway tickets worth above Rs 17 thousand from them. During this period one person involved in theft of passenger belongings was also apprehended.
Wherever required, raids were conducted in coordination with Government Railway Police (GRP) and personnel of local police stations.1179 tickets worth Rs 22.81 lakhs (approx) were recovered during drives and raids. Also, 437 persons were apprehended during the period of 2023-24 for being involved in theft of passenger belongings. All the apprehended persons were prosecuted under the relevant section of the Railways Act, the press release added.
