Dimapur | May 13
No concrete resolution was made on the issue of Free Movement Regime (FMR) during a consultative meeting of civil society organisations on May 13.
The Tenyimi Union Dimapur (TUD) had convened the meeting to discuss on the issue, calling for participation from different civil society organisations here, at Hotel Saramati. The Naga civil societies in attendance were—Eastern Nagaland People's Union Dimapur (ENPUD), Tenyimi Union Dimapur (TUD), Tenyimi Youth Organisation Dimapur (TYOD), South Nagas' Union of Nagaland State (SNUNS), GBs Union Dimapur (GBUD), Dimapur Urban Council Chairman Federation (DUCCF) and Nagaland Indigenous People's Forum (NIPF). Post meeting, TUD President Vekhosayi Nyekha said while the house had a fruitful discussion, no definitive decision was reached today due to the absence of several organisations.
Calling for a united stance on the issue, Nyekha maintained the scrapping of FMR concerns not just a few tribes of the Nagas who have been affected. “It is a Naga issue... In fact, it is a North-East issue, so all of us have to come together,” he added. The union is reportedly planning another meeting regarding the issue in the next few days.
