19 Manipur government school teachers suspended for truancy

Nineteen government school teachers have been placed under suspension for not attending schools in the past two days in Manipur. The teachers were found absent while Manipur Education Minister S Rajen Singh paid surprise visits at schools on February 23 and 24.

Eight teachers were suspended on Tuesday and eleven of them on Wednesday. Orders have been issued in this regard by the Directorate of Education(S).

Suspended teachers include nine from Lamlong Higher Secondary School, two from Khonghampat High School and eight from Lamdeng Government High School under Lamsang assembly constituency.

Nine teachers of Lamlong Higher Secondary School were found absent when a surprise visit was conducted at the school by a ministerial team on February 23.

In continuation of the routine visits and inspection of schools, the minister inspected the infrastructures of those schools and said the ‘surprise’ visits would continue in the remaining districts as well. 

He further appealed to all school staff to be dutiful and sincere to their service at this juncture since Board and Council exams are knocking at the door. He also urged the teachers to work in the interest of the student community of the state.
