Sovima, March 29 (MExN): The 1st North East Cricket Development Committee (NECDC) Interstate Friendship Senior Men’s Tournament (limited overs match) hosted by the Nagaland Cricket Association (NCA) kicked off on March 29. The tournament is being played at two different venues one at Nagaland Cricket Stadium and the other at Sovima Cricket Ground, NCA stated in a press release.

In the inaugural match of the day played at Nagaland Cricket Stadium, Nagaland team edged past Mizoram with a convincing and comfortable win after Khrievitso Kense made a glory performance with the ball by scalping 3 wickets, with 3 maiden overs and giving away only 3 runs in 4.2 overs for which he was later awarded the man of the match.

Mizoram team only notable numbers on the board came from Joseph Lalthankhuma (12 runs) and Vikash Kumar (17 runs) who were the only two batsmen managing to reach a double figure score. The rest of the Mizoram batsman had a bad field day as the Nagaland team bowlers tackled their batting line-up by taking wickets at regular intervals and not giving any opportunity for the Mizoram batsman to settle into the game.

Tahmeed Rahman and Nagaho Chishi took two wickets each while Hoponkyu Sangtam, Imliwati and Moakumzuk bagged one wicket each.

In the 2nd innings Nagaland team got off to a comfortable run chase as the opening duo of Hem Bahadur Chettri and Yugandhar Singh provided a solid start with both the batsman finding the fence at will with ease and scoring 28 runs each. Mizoram bowlers did not have much to defend on the board and it was only Rinsangzela who managed to take the big scalp wicket of Hem Bahadur but the damage had already been done.

Nagaland Captain Jonathan Rongsen was the next man walking into the party and he hammered a massive 6 to wind up the innings in favour of Nagaland winning by 9 wickets.

In the other match of the day at Sovima Cricket Ground played between Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh the match got delayed because of soggy outfield and the match was limited to 40 overs per side.

Meghalaya defeated Arunachal Pradesh in a one sided match with a convincing 8 wickets victory.

Batting first Arunachal Pradesh could manage to put up only 49 runs on the board with Techi Neri top scoring with 11 runs as none of the Arunachal batter could find the rhythm to tackle the carnage of Abhishek Kumar who picked up 5 wickets in 6 over with 2 maidens and giving out only 16 runs. Abhishek with his brilliant bowling took the prized wickets of the top four batsmen which also earned him the man of the match award.

Arien Bonchang top scored with 19 runs to give Meghalaya a comfortable start to the tournament with a win.
