
60 elected members to take oath

The 60 elected members of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) will take oath/affirmation at the first session of 14th NLA on March 20 in the NLA Hall, Kohima. Obituary reference and election of NLA Speaker will also take place on March 20.
In the 2023 state general election held on February 27, Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party won 25 seats, Bharatiya Janata Party-12, Independent- 4, Janata Dal (United)-1, Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas)- 2, Naga People’s Front- 2, National People’s Party-5, Nationalist Congress Party-7, and Republican Party of India (Athawale)- 2.
The 14th house of the NLA has two women elected representative for the first time in the history of the state assembly.
According to the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) of the Assembly, the following business would be taken up during the session from March 20 to 28:
Oath/Affirmation by the Members of the 14th NLA; Obituary Reference; Election of Speaker; Governor’s Address; Motion of Thanks on the Governor’s Address; Reporting on Assent to Bills; Laying of Annual Administrative Reports/ Annual Reports; Introduction of the Government Bills; Discussion of the Motion of Thanks on the Governor’s Address; Laying of Reports/Rules; Laying of C&AG Reports; Presentation of Budget for the year 2023-2024; Discussion and Voting on the Budget for the year 2023-2024 (14) Announcement of the Constitution of various Financial and Non-Financial, Committees of the Assembly and Panel of Chairman for the year 2023- 2024 by the Speaker.
Traffic regulations for assembly session
In view of the assembly session from March 20 to 28, the office of the Superintendent of Police, Kohima will be enforcing certain traffic regulations as part of the security arrangement.
A release received here stated that only vehicles with the following car passes will be allowed entry to the Assembly Secretariat: ‘X’ (Red letter with white background) for legislators; ‘Y’ (Yellow letter with white background) for AHoDs/HoDs; ‘Assembly Logo’ with blue background for Assembly Staff 2023; ‘LH’ (White letter with black background) for Police Personnel and PSs/PAs; ‘O’ (Green letter with white background) for IPR/Media and other departments; and ‘ON ASSEMBLY DUTY’ (Red letter with white background) for staff Bus/Pool & Dak Vehicles
The release also stated that no vehicle will be allowed to be parked by the roadside from 6:00 am onwards during the assembly sessions at the following routes: From BSNL Telephone Exchange till Classic Island; from Raj Bhavan till Classic Island; from Classic Island to Assembly Secretariat via TCP gate; Phool bari, Razhü point and High School and from New CM Official Residence; Phezoucha to Assembly Secretariat.
Heavy vehicles will not be allowed to ply in Kohima town during Assembly Session, from 6:00 am till the session is over. All loading and unloading of goods in Kohima town should be completed by 6:00 am during the assembly session.
Heavy vehicles will not be allowed to be parked along ‘D’ Block road.
While anticipating positive co-operation from the public, the police will tow away the defaulting vehicles and the towing charges will be borne by the vehicles owners, the release added.
