Kohima, Dec 15: Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio today termed the year 2006 as a successful year for the state government, beginning with the North East Agri Expo, which he said was a tremendous success.
Speaking at the joint pre-Christmas celebration of Nagaland Civil Secretariat and Directorates at the Secretariat Plaza, Rio said that various activities have been carried out during the Year of Farmer and it was making a good progress. He also termed the just concluded Hornbill Festival of Nagaland as a “very very successful” which registered the highest number of tourists during the year.
Rio acknowledged the government employees irrespective of high or low for extending their active support, participation and implementation of various government programmes for the welfare of the people.
Rio said that all the achievements have been possible because of God blessing and the support he got from the colleagues at all levels. “We are happy that we could do something for our people,” he said adding with all success, the people have a great reason to celebrate and enjoy the festivity.
In our state, the most important desire in our land is peace, he said. We declare ourselves as Christian state yet we could not achieve peace in our land, he continued.
“We need peace at any cost. We need unity and reconciliation,” Rio said.
Stating that “God is with us,” he called upon the people to unite, adding God will help us and peace will come into our land.
He extended warmest Christmas greetings to all and looks forward a happy and prosperous News Year.
Rio also gave away certificates and cash award of Rs. 1500 each to Kezin Newmai- Best UDA, Rabenthung- Best LDA, Toshirenla- Best Steno-Grade-III, Lezhuno- Best- Typist, Vikiye Sema- best Driver, Kroswuyi Chakhesang- Best Peon, Khrietsovi – Best Chowkidar, Gwasule- Best Sweeper, Sahi Chakhesang- Best Foreman, and Kekhrielezo Kire- Best Handyman.
Minister for home Thenucho distributed Rs. 5000 each from Secretariat side as financial help to the relatives of 10 staff who passed away.
Chief Secretary Lalhuma also delivered greetings message. A free will offering was also made, which will be distributed to the under privileged persons/ orphans by the Secretariat. Songs, cutting of Christmas cake, fireworks Christmas feast marked the celebration.
