Kohima, June 11 (MExN): National Lok Adalat conducted today across the State relieved the burden of Case pendency on the Judiciary by taking up a total of 264 cases among which 220 cases were disposed. The total settlement amount involved in the disposed cases amounts to Rs. 29,33,491.
The Lok Adalat was conducted on motor accident claims and tribunal, insurance claims, municipal matters, revenue matters, trade license, traffic matter and others by the respective District Legal Services Authority.
The Lok Adalat sittings and proceedings were done with the District and Sessions Judge, Chief Judicial and Civil Judges as Presiding Officers. The Lok Adalat proceedings, assisted by the panel lawyers, retainer lawyers, and legal aid counsels, social workers and police personnel and para legal volunteers serve as conciliators. In traffic cases, traffic police personnel assisted the proceedings and bank managers and bank officials assisted in bank and insurance matters.
Mobile court on traffic was held at Pfutsero, Phek Town, Peren and Mokokchung along with the sensitizing and promoting awareness on Motor Vehicle Act, on various provisions of Law that vehicle owners need to comply. This also ensured and encouraged the vehicle owners to carry relevant and proper documents such as Registration Certificate, Insurance and pollution Certificate.
The Judges as Presiding Officers and Lawyers sitting on the Town square, road Junctions on proceedings of the Mobile Lok Adalat, created the opportunity for the people to come forward, seeking legal advice and availing sensitization on legal issues and topics. The government department and authorities, NGOs and public were impressed with such coordinated efforts of the District Legal Services Authorities and Traffic Police personnel.
Lok Adalat (The Peoples Court) is for speedy and amicable settlement of cases. There is no further appeal once the matter is settled in Lok Adalat. Both the Parties resolved their cases on the spot and goes home in joyous mood without worries.
The Next National Lok Adalat is scheduled to be held on July 9, on Electricity/Water/Telephone/Public Utility disputes.

KDLSA conduct Lok Adalat on banking matters
Kohima, June 11 (MExN): Kohima District Legal Services Authority (KDLSA) conducted National Lok Adalat today on MACT & Insurance Claims and Banking matters.
12 banking matters were taken up out of which 6 pre litigated cases could be settled. The settlement amount could be reduced to Rs. 7,22,101 from the outstanding balance amount of Rs.19,50,878/-.
Vikyato Sumi, Assistant Public Prosecutor, Kohima delivering a short speech during the closing session stated that Lok Adalat is beneficial for everyone. He said that this time the settlement amount was cut down to less than 50 percent from the outstanding due which is a great success.
He added that the purpose of having Lok Adalat is to help the banks and the borrowers in order to build a better relationship. He said that more banks and borrowers should avail the facilities and opportunities offered through Lok Adalats in the coming days.
Rebecca Haokip, Assistant Bank Manager, Central Bank of India, commented that Lok Adalat offers a wonderful opportunity for the banks as well as the borrowers and loan defaulters to settle their matter amicably.
Laymen often panic whenever they receive Legal Notices or cases are instituted before the courts against them but the avenues that Lok Adalats offers is an ideal system for settling the matters without hurting their sentiments.
Also, she requested the Kohima District Authorities to keep inviting and informing them whenever it is held again in the near future.
One of the borrower expressed his happiness and said that he is grateful that the outstanding amount which is due is reduced and his matter could be settled today.
The Lok Adalat was presided over by Tucuno Vamuzo, First Class Magistrate, Kohima and Vikyato Sumi Asst Public prosecutor, Kohima and Panel Lawyer Sunjib Rana were the Conciliators.
