
Dimapur, February 7 (MExN): The submission of nominations for the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly concluded on Tuesday with 101 more candidates filing their papers. The total number of nominations filed is now 225, according to data provided by the office of the Nagaland Chief Electoral Officer.
Of the districts, Mon accounted for the maximum number of nominations at 39, out of which 5 were stand by candidates. This was closely followed by Mokokchung with 32 nominations, 6 of them stand bys.
Constituency-wise, the NDPP has filed nominations in 40 ACs and the BJP in 20 as per the seat-sharing formula. Congress has fielded in 25 constituencies; NPF in 22; LJP (Ram Vilas) in 17; NPP in 12; NCP in 11; RPI (A) and JD (U) in 8 each, RJD in 4; while the RPP and CPI have fielded candidates only in one constituency each.
Notably, there are 25 Independent candidates in the fray to the election.
Mention may be made that the Election Commission of India’s portal indicated that there were 240 candidates had filed nominations. However, there were instances of double entry in the case of some candidates.
Scrutiny of documents will be done on February 8, and the last date for withdrawal of candidature is February 10 after which the state will go to poll on February 27.
