Kohima, September 14 (MExN): The Department of English, St. Joseph’s College, Jakhama celebrated the 23rd Literary Fest on September 14 at the college Indoor Stadium. The grand programme started with an invocation led by Sister Tesly SABS. VikisheJakhalu, president of the Department office, delivered the welcome address. Asst. Prof. James HK, HoD called upon the students to have critical mind and understand multiplicity of meanings in things around them and particularly, the literature they read in their syllabus before declaring the fest open. The Drama Club of SJC performed a spectacular drama entitled “Remitting Love”. This was followed by competition hours. The various items for competition included folk song, declamation, poetry recitation, poetry composition, sketching and painting, story writing, extempore, debate, duet and dance. It may be mentioned that over the years, the performance of the department students has tremendously improved and is of the state of the art. The overall championship went to III Sem ‘F’ – team Havard. The other teams were Cambridge, Westminster, Oxford and Andrews. The programme came to an end with the prize distribution ceremony and vote of thanks proposed by Rhunsito Lims, the general secretary. It was hosted by Joshua and Yapangmenla.
