24 dengue, 10 JE cases in Dimapur in 2017

Out of 79 reported dengue cases at District Hospital, Dimapur from January 2017 till date, 24 have tested positive, while 10 Japanese Encephalitis (JE) cases have also tested positive out of 43 reported cases during the same period.  

This statistic was revealed by Dr T Temsu, incharge of Sentinel Surveillance site Lab, District Hospital Dimapur during the Intersectoral Convergence Meeting on Dengue at DC’s conference Hall, Dimapur on Friday.  

The number of Dengue cases showed a decline in 2017 as against 141 positive cases in 2016 out of 772 reported cases. However, the number of JE cases showed an increase from nil positive case in 2016 to 10 positive cases in 2017. There was only one reported case of JE in 2016 which was tested negative.  

Presenting a paper on Clinical Management, Dr Ngopelo, MD, DH Dimapur said that all fever cases diagnosed as Malaria by RDT or Microscopy should promptly be given effective treatment.
