24 teams to vie for 7th Silver Cup cricket tourney from March 16

Kohima, March 12 (MExN): Altogether 24 teams from Nagaland and Assam have confirmed participation in the prestigious 7th edition of the Silver Cup T-20 Cricket Tournament. Organised annually by the Nepali Baptist Church Kohima Youth Department (NBCK YD) as part of Sports Ministry, the tournament will be held from March 16 at Jakhama Ground under the theme “Peace and Unity through Cricket”. Out of the 24 teams, 16 are from Kohima, three from Dimapur and one each from Mokokchung and Diphu (Assam). Meanwhile, orientation cum fixture draw for the tournament was held today within the Church premises at Midland with Youth Director of Lotha Baptist Church Kohima, Renthungo Kikon as the main speaker and attended by representatives of the participating teams. Pastor Surjay Sapkota read the scripture and pronounced blessings while tournament treasurer Prakash Tiwari briefed on the Sports Ministry of the NBCK YD. Radhika Chetri compered the programme.  The inaugural match will be played between Police Union Baptist Church and Friends Cricket Club at 10am. The champions of the tournament will bag Rs. 70,000 while runners-up will get Rs. 25,000, both along with running trophies and citations. The losing semi-finalists will get Rs. 5,000 each while individual awards in the category of Highest Scorer, Highest Wicket Taker and Best Wicket Keeper have also been earmarked.
