Newmai News Network Imphal | July 29   This monsoon, Japanese Encephalitis has claimed three persons in Manipur where the total number of positive cases has reached 20 so far.   Officials said vaccination campaigns and fogging exercise have been intensified in the areas where JE positive cases have been confirmed.   Five more samples were tested positive at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Sciences (JNIMS), Imphal yesterday. The three victims were from Churachandpur, Bishnupur and Changamdabi.   The fear of being infected by JE has gripped Churachandpur district where nearly 10,000 people got vaccinated against JE yesterday. So far, 24,500 people in the district have received the shot since last week.

On Friday, over 7000 people were given shots against JE at the District Hospital and District Immunisation Office in the district. More are likely to be administered the vaccine further in the coming days.   However, reports claimed quoting health officials that seasonal viral fever is widely spreading in Churachanpur and not JE which claimed its first known victim in the district recently.
