25th PSUK Fresher’s Meet held

Kohima, September 10 (MExN): The Phom Students’ Union Kohima (PSUK) celebrated its 25th Fresher’s Meet on September 9 at the State Academy Hall, Kohima with Dr. Nicky Kire, Minister for Road & Bridges, Nagaland and TL Kiusumong Tikhir, Addl. Deputy Commissioner Kohima as Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour respectively.   Admitting the government’s failure to provide sufficient jobs to the educated youth, the chief guest asked youngsters not to be servants but to be masters while citing the example of Zynorique Team, who are travelling all the 11 districts training youths as part of the Year of Construction Workers (YOCW).   While acknowledging the Phom people for their contribution to the state, the chief guest also challenged students of the community to compete with the rest of the Nagas insisting that Phoms are second to none.   Speaking as Guest of Honour, Kiusumong Tikhir ADC K ohima urged the students to be assets to society and also encouraged the gathering to have love and concern for one’s own community. Quoting Aristotle, he argued, “He who is unable to live in society, or who has no need because he is sufficient for himself, must be either a beast or a god”.   Earlier President, Phom Union Kohima Dr. MC Longai exhorted the gathering while students from Japfu Christian College, Kohima enchanted the gathering with a special number.   During the second session, Chingmeiloipa Phom and Easther B Phom were crowned Mr & Miss Fresher respectively.
