Lumami, March 12 (MExN): The 26th annual varsity sports meet 2025 of the Nagaland University Students Union, Lumami (NUSU-L), commenced at Dr T Ao Sports complex on March 12.

In his speech, Prof Jagadish K Patnaik, Vice-Chancellor of Nagaland University acknowledged the institution’s commitment to providing top-tier infrastructure for both academics and sports. He emphasized that the institution has made significant efforts to ensure students have the best facilities to nurture their talents and skills. He noted that while substantial progress has been made, some do not fully utilize or appreciate the available infrastructure. However, he assured that efforts would be made in the coming year to address these gaps, with a particular focus on the sports and administrative departments, stated a press release.

The oath-taking ceremony, led by Tinglet Konyak, Games and Sports Secretary, NUSU-L, reinforced the commitment of athletes to fair play and integrity. This was followed by the torch relay and lighting of the flame, performed by house captains and the best athlete of 2024, symbolizing determination and commitment.

Prof Jagadish K Patnaik officially declared the games open, setting the stage for a series of exhilarating sporting events in the coming days. Embracing the theme ‘Ignite, Envision, Conquer,’ the varsity sports meet inspires students to surpass their limits, and seize victory. As the competitions commences, students are expected to showcase their talent and potential, collaborative spirit and true sportsmanship uplifting the spirit of this annual event.

Earlier, rhe opening ceremony was hosted by Chongkoi and Angnyei with M Ebibeni Ngullie, Assistant Cultural Secretary, NUSU-L as the compere. The event commenced with an invocation by Tzubalung, Prayer Secretary of AKTL, followed by a welcome note from Chopika N Chopi, Organizing Secretary NUSU (L).
