31 new COVID cases in Nagaland

 Superspreader event in Dimapur

DIMAPUR, JANUARY 6 (MExN): After a lull, Dimapur reported a sudden spike of COVID-19. Out of the 31 new cases (statewide daily total) reported on January 6, 30 were reported from Dimapur, while Kohima accounted for 1. More than half (17) of the new cases were detected through random sampling or self testing, 9 were returnees/travelers, and 5 from the armed forces/security personnel.  A state Health official attributed the spike in Dimapur to a superspreader event but did not specify where or when.  One new death due to the infection was also reported today from Dimapur.  Meanwhile, 5 new recoveries from the infection were also reported on the day. While the total caseload of the State is 32,247, there are at present 82 active COVID-19 cases in Nagaland. A total of 687 have succumbed to the virus in the State till date.   Of the active cases, 69 are asymptomatic, 12 have mild symptoms, and 1 has severe symptoms requiring oxygen.
