The fourth edition of the Mokokchung Inter-ward Football tournament organized by Marepkong Youth Association kicked off at the Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung on April 10.
The inaugural programme was graced by Dr Sentitula, IFS, Division Forest Officer, Mokokchung. Emphasizing on the theme, 'Towards Excellence,' the guest of honour encouraged the players to strive towards excellence through hard work and dedication. She pointed that if we are creative and hardworking there will be ample avenues before us.
She further stated that we are bestowed with many blessings which comes with responsibilities. “Only when we are able to tackle the responsibilities, we can enjoy the blessings,” she added. With reference to the players, she mentioned that the word that best describes the Alpha Generation is SMART, which stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Tangible and Time bound. Using these words, she encouraged the players to bear these words in mind as they participate in the tournament.
Marepkong Youth Association has been organizing the tournament since 2019 with the aim of nurturing footballing skills and to promote talents, so that individual players can represent the district and even the state in future. The tournament is held under the theme, 'TowardsExcellence.' 13 wards of Mokokchung Town are participating in the tournament.
The first match was played between Arkong ward and Mongsenbai Ward, wherein, Mongsenbai won against Arkong with a score of 3-0.
