Five cadres of the NSCN (K) were arrested by security forces during a massive operation carried out in Jiribam subdivision of Imphal East.
The NSCN (K) cadres were nabbed by personnel of 27 Assam Rifles during an operation conducted in an area between Lamkhai bazar and Hilgat around 1:30 pm yesterday. Some weapons were also seized from them, reports said Tuesday.
They have been handed to Jiribam Police Station.
Meanwhile, tension prevailed in Namthazang village near Saitu Gamphazol, which is located about 50 km southeast of Sapermeina in Senapati district, over the arrest of three village youths by police.
Gaikhaling Kamei, Gaigempa and Namthalung were arrested by the police on their way to Patsoi in Imphal West to buy pig fodder around 7:30 am. The trio were travelling in an auto when the incident happened.
The villagers protested against the arrest of the youths saying they were all innocent. They demanded that the three villagers be released immediately and unconditionally.
Reports said there was an incident wherein houses of Namthazang village chief and secretary were damaged by unknown persons on March 3. It is said that the three youths have been blamed for the house attack.
