5.0 Edition of Chengu Festival in Kivikhu village on Feb 25

Zunheboto, February 21 (MExN): The Tizu Valley Biodiversity Conservation and Livelihood Network, in collaboration with the Department of Tourism Nagaland, Conservation International, Value Network Ventures and TERI is organising the 5.0 Edition of Chengu Festival. 

The event will take place on February 25 at Kivikhu village, Zunheboto District, with Multi Task Media as a media partner.

The Chengu Festival, literally translating to ‘Biodiversity Festival’ is an initiative aimed at promoting the preservation of biodiversity hotspots in the region. The festival seeks to create a mass awareness campaign, highlighting the importance of conservation and sustainable use of biological resources.

Media Cell, 5.0 Edition of Chengu Festival in a press release stated that the festival, themed ‘Conserving the Cultural and Natural Heritage’ aims to promote Nagaland’s rich cultural heritage and biodiversity. The event will showcase various Naga indigenous games and competitions, including traditional war dance, thishole, thighale, winnowing rice competition (women’s category), and traditional fire making (men’s category).

Veyielo Doulo, Director of Tourism, Government of Nagaland, will attend as the special guest, while Dr T Yetovi Tuccu, Joint Director, Health and Family Welfare, Government of Nagaland, will deliver a keynote address. A community interactive session, declaration of essay competition on the theme, and prize distribution are also part of the festival.

The First Chengu Festival, also known as the Great Barbet Festival, was first held in January 2019, organized by the Tizu Valley Biodiversity Conservation and Livelihood Network (TVBCLN) in Kivikhu, Sukhai, and Ghukhuyi Villages under Satakha circle of Zunheboto.

The Tizu Valley Biodiversity Conservation and Livelihood Network (TVBCLN), Zunheboto, Nagaland, is the leading organization behind the Chengu Festival. TVBCLN has achieved notable success in environmental conservation, seeking Plan Vivo certification for a carbon project in Zunheboto district.

TVBCLN has partnered with Value Network Ventures (VNV) as the investor, The Energy Resources Institute (TERI), an NGO based in Delhi, as the project proponent, and TVBCLN as the co-proponent for the REDD+ project.

“We are excited to host the 5.0 Edition of Chengu Festival 2025 which celebrates the unique cultural heritage and biodiversity of Nagaland,” said Ivan Zhimomi Organizer of the festival.
