Expression of resentment on delaying pol solution: NPAC
DIMAPUR, JANUARY 12 (MExN):Nagaland will witness the first bandh of the new year on January 14. The Nagaland People’s Action Committee (NPAC)informed that it will be a statewide bandh, which will take effect for 6 hours, from 6:00 am to 12 noon.
A press release from the NPAC stated that the decision to the effect was taken on January 12, at a meeting of tribal bodies and civil organisation, as a way of expressing resentment “over inordinate delay in delivering the long awaited Naga political solution as promised by Government of India (GoI).
It stated, “The civil voices particularly the 14 Naga tribes of Nagaland, Nagaland Tribes Council, Nagaland GB Federation, CNTC, ACAUT, CNCCI, Ex-PAN, SCAN, Political parties and many others have expressed their stand loud and clear that we want solution before election. The demand for solution before election is a consensus demand of the primary stake holders. So, NPAC once again urges the highest authority of the GoI to heed the voice of the people and take the peace process to its logical conclusion and deliver solution.”
It also expressed displeasure at what it called was the bullying of NPAC volunteers by the Nagaland Police, on January 6, during the Union Home Minister’s visit to the state. It said that the volunteers were assembled peacefully at the airport road displaying banners portraying slogans demanding “Naga political solutionbefore election” when they were forcefully dispersed by the police, who also seized the banners. According to the NPAC, the police personnel admitted to taking the measure as per orders from the “highest office of the state,” which proved the “double standard colour and insincerity” of the state government. “Should the peace process lands in a debacle now, the authority whoever sabotages such democratic demonstration shall be held responsible,” it said.
While stating that the Naga people are now in a crossroad, it said that a firm stand proving “our conviction on the demand for final solution” has to come out clear, either “for or against” in order to separate the “grains” from “chaffs.”
