Dimapur, June 16 (MExN): A three-month tailoring skill training programme for 60 women and girls from Dimpaur-I Assembly Constituency was launched at the ANMA Integrated Development Association (AIDA), Don Bosco Campus, Dimapur, on June 16.
The initiative aims to promote women's empowerment, self-reliance, and sustainable livelihood opportunities through vocational training.
The programme, titled "Empowering Women Through Tailoring," is being conducted under the initiative of H Tovihoto Ayemi, MLA and Advisor for Tribal Affairs & Election, Government of Nagaland.
Welcoming the participants, Dr Bibiana Lungbila, HR and Director of Training and Programmes, AIDA, said the training seeks to equip women with practical tailoring skills, build confidence, and create livelihood opportunities. She encouraged the trainees to make the most of the programme and expressed hope that it would contribute to their personal and economic empowerment.
In his keynote address, Rev Fr Dr Roy George SDB, Executive Director and Chief Functionary of AIDA, urged the trainees to approach the programme with dedication and perseverance. Describing tailoring as a valuable livelihood skill, he said it can provide long-term economic benefits. He also acknowledged MLA Ayemi for supporting the initiative and acknowledged his commitment to creating livelihood opportunities for women.
Representing the Advisor, Mharonthung Murry conveyed Ayemi's message and reaffirmed his commitment to empowering women through skill-based interventions. He encouraged the trainees to remain sincere and committed throughout the training period and assured continued support for initiatives aimed at improving the socio-economic conditions of women and youth in the constituency.
According to AIDA, the training programme will cover basic stitching, machine handling, cutting and measurements, garment construction, alterations, finishing techniques, and entrepreneurship-related skills. The programme concluded with a renewed commitment from stakeholders to promote women's empowerment and sustainable community development through skill training.
