Nagaland’s victorious contingent poses with the trophy after finishing atop the medal standings at the 14th Senior National Pencak Silat Championship 2026.
Dimapur, July 10 (MExN): Nagaland emerged as the Overall Team Champion at the 14th Senior National Pencak Silat Championship 2026, held from July 6 to 8 at the SAI Training Centre Indoor Stadium, NEHU Campus, Shillong, Meghalaya.
According to a press release, the Nagaland contingent finished atop the championship standings with seven gold, two silver and one bronze medal in one of the most competitive editions of the national championship.
In the Tanding category, Kevin, Jon, Kitenlo K Thono, Liike Kibmi, Avikali V Sheqi and Kuhoshi Sumi won gold medals, while Viloka Chophy claimed silver.
Nagaland also excelled in the artistic events. The women’s Artistic Regu team comprising Avikali V Sheqi, Liike Kibarni and Hatneinem Khongsai won the gold medal. The men’s Artistic Regu team of Kevin, Jon and Sumit Kalita secured silver, while Kevin added a bronze medal in the Creative Male Solo event.
The championship drew nearly 1,200 athletes representing all states and Union Territories, along with teams from the Indian Police, CISF, Assam Rifles, ITBP, SSB and the Indian Navy.
Meghalaya finished as the first runners-up in the overall standings, while the Indian Police placed third.
The Nagaland contingent was led by Association Vice-President Vikishe Chophy, Secretary Ghunato Kiba and Head Coach and General Secretary Deep Kumar.
Congratulating the athletes, Nagaland Pencak Silat Association President Khevishe Sema and members of the association said the achievement had brought laurels to the state. They also expressed confidence that the success would inspire more young athletes to take up Pencak Silat and represent Nagaland at the national and international levels.
