The 60th Indo- Naga Ceasefire Day was observed today at Chedema Peace Camp, near Kohima. Federal Government of Nagaland (FGN) Kedahge Gen (Retd) Viyalie Metha was also present at the programme.

Speaking on the occasion as the speaker, Rev. Khrotso Mero, former executive secretary, Chakhesang Baptist Church Council (CBCC) described Indo-Naga Ceasefire Day as a historic day for all the Nagas.

He said that the Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) started peace work and on September 6, 1964, “Peace came to our land.”

Accordingly, Rev. Mero said, we the Nagas observe the Peace Day every year celebrating the goodness and faithfulness of God towards the Nagas.

“This day is for all the Nagas irrespective of different church affiliation and different political groups. This day comes as a great relief to our people, a breathing space for us and to ponder as to how Nagas have to move forward,” Rev. Mero said.

This is a day to let the young generation also know the aspiration of the Nagas and familiarize with our political stand and history of the Nagas, he said adding, “This is also a day to give our due respect to all the National workers irrespective of different political groups who have laid their lives for the cause of Nagas and those who are still actively involved in nation building, not forgetting the Peace Mission members under the leadership of NBCC for their tireless and selfless efforts to bring peace in our land."

Sharing his opinion for solution, Rev. Mero saluted “our pathfinders for working tirelessly to bring about peace in our land.”

“Our seniors have done their part. But our generation have failed our people in so many ways bringing about divisions, brokenness, egoistic, selfishness, dishonesty, hatred and the list goes on,” he said adding, “Politically, socially, economically, spiritually our walls are broken.”

Rev. Mero said that full-fledged sovereignty and final settlement may take time, “Yet, the latest two Agreements, namely- Framework Agreement & Agreed Position can be settled soon. In 2015, August 3, Framework Agreement was made between Government of India (GoI) and NSCN (IM). In 2017, Agreed Position was made between GoI and 7 NNPG’s.

This is achievable. This solution should be sorted out first among the National Workers. We had Naga Concordant and Reconciliation among the National workers. Yet, in order to bring about an acceptable solution, all the groups should unite first, Rev. Mero said.

Rev. Mero also stressed on the need to accept one another, encourage one another, pray for one another, serve others with love, live at peace with one another and, “show your love with forgiveness, act humbly towards others. In love there is peace.” FGN Tatar Hoho speaker Lhouvitsu also delivered a short speech.
