7 MLAs clarify on Dec 13 meeting

DIMAPUR, DECEMBER 14 (MExN): Seven MLAs today issued a joint statement claiming that they were not part of an attempted coup of the government during the meeting held at Hotel de Oriental Grand in Kohima on December 13

The statement appended by MLAs Pukhayi Sumi, Deo Nukhu, Eshak Hessum, Phowang Konyak, Namri Nchang, Benjongliba Aier and Dr Longriniken said that “whatever decision that the Chief Minister had taken was the right action at the right time and we continue to stand firmly behind his dynamic leadership.”

They further appealed against the spread of such propaganda in the future.

The MLAs revealed that on December 13, they were informed that a meeting had been convened at Hotel de Oriental Grand by NPF President, Dr Shurhozelie Liezietsu and that they were all supposed to attend the same without fail. “In good faith, we turned up for the meeting but to our surprise the gate was locked behind us once we had assembled inside the hotel and our car keys were seized leaving us without any means to communicate with other people outside the hotel premises,” they alleged.

“After several hours we realised that the NPF President, Dr Shurhozelie Liezietsu was not going to show up and that the whole tamasha was cooked up and orchestrated by MP Rajya Sabha, KG Kenye and some few senior members,” the MLAs said.

Later, Rajya Sabha MP, KG Kenye arrived followed by former Chief Minister and MP Lok Sabha, Neiphiu Rio who addressed the gathering numbering around 16, they added.

The MLAs also reported the Rajya Sabha MP as informing them that “both the MPs had a meeting with the NPF President, Dr Shurhozelie Liezietsu the previous night for change of guard.”

“However, we learnt to our dismay that this was a total lie meant to sour the relations between Chief Minister, TR Zeliang and Dr. Shurhozelie Liezietsu,” they said.
