7 sports infrastructure projects under construction in Nagaland

Nagaland has seven sports infrastructure projects that are currently under construction under the “Utilisation and creation/upgradation of sports infrastructure” component of the Khelo India Scheme.

The data was provided by Union Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports Anurag Singh Thakur in a written response to a question regarding ‘Construction of Stadiums’ in the Lok Sabha on March 29.

In the written response, the Minister stated that ‘sports’ being a State subject, ‘the responsibility to construct stadiums rests primarily with the respective State/Union Territory Governments’ and as such, ‘the information about them is not maintained in this Ministry.’

However, he stated that under the “Utilisation and creation/upgradation of sports infrastructure” component of the Khelo India Scheme, the Ministry has sanctioned 289 sports infrastructure projects of various categories amounting to Rs 2396.49 crore across the country, ‘on the basis of proposals received from them from time to time.’

As per data accessed from the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports website (https://yas.nic.in/khelo-india-infrastrucutre ) on Tuesday, a total of Rs 45 crore has been sanctioned for the seven projects in Nagaland. The project details are as follows: 

Laying of Synthetic Athletic Track at SAI’s Special Area Games (SAG) Centre, Dimapur
According to the data, a total of Rs 7 crore was sanctioned to the Sports Authority of India for the project on May 24, 2017. It indicated that the full amount has already been released; however, only 60 percent of the work has been completed so far.

Multipurpose Hall at Viswema, Kohima
For this project, a total of Rs 8 crore was been sanctioned to the State Government on April 29, 2020. Out of this, an amount of Rs 4 crore has been released and 25 percent of work has been completed, according to the data.

Multipurpose Hall at Medziphema, Dimapur
In the case of this project which was sanctioned on April 29, 2020 the Ministry has released Rs 4 crore out of the total sanctioned amount of Rs 8 crore. As per the website, 25 percent of works has been completed for this project.

Multipurpose Hall at Riphyim, Englan, Wokha District
For this project too, an amount of Rs 4 crore has been released out of the Rs 8 crore that was sanctioned. The data indicated that 23 percent of works has been completed for the project which was sanctioned on April 29, 2020.

Indoor Badminton Hall at Yachem EAC Hq, Longleng District
According to the website, Rs 2 crore out of Rs 4 crore has been released for this project which was sanctioned on April 29, 2020. So far, 30 percent of works have been completed for the indoor badminton hall.

Synthetic Football Turf with Running Track & Solar Lighting at Mon Football Ground
Sanctioned on October 23, 2020, a total of Rs 2.50 crore has been released for this project at the Mon headquarters and 30 percent of works has been completed so far. According to the data, the total amount sanctioned is Rs 5 crore.

Development of Lakhuti Football Ground, Wokha
The project to develop the Lakhuti Football Ground in Wokha district was sanctioned on January 7, 2022 and Rs 2.50 crore out of Rs 5 crore has been released for the works. The data indicated that 30 percent of works have been completed for this project.
