77 people arrested in drug related cases last week in Mizoram

At least 77 people have been arrested in drug and alcohol related cases during last week, an official of state Excise and Narcotics department said on Sunday.

 

Excise and Narcotics department spokesperson Peter Zohmingthanga said that various drugs and illicit alcohols, including 312.75 grams of heroin, 505 grams of cannabis and 404 tablets of Tramadol drug were seized during raid conducted between February 16 and February 21.

 

He further said that 1179.25 litres of locally made alcohol (Rakzu), 149 bottles of a 750 ml-Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL) and 23 bottles of 375 ml IMFL were also seized during the raid.

 

He then said that at least 77 people were arrested for violating laws in drug and alcohol related issue.

 

Peter Zohmingthanga also said that at least 16 illegal liquor factories were destroyed at Phunchawng area on the outskirt of Aizawl during a raid on Saturday.

 

Meanwhile, the Excise department has cautioned people against consumption of locally brewed liquors as they are made out of spurious ingredients.
